Everyone’s Dancing?

Thank you so much for your comments on my last post. Your support does mean a lot. I’m a very negative person by nature and as much as I try to keep a lid on it…

Anyway. A couple of fashion videos have been floating around and even though they aren’t anything to do with plus size fashion, they make me smile, so I wanted to share them. For some reason, everyone’s dancing in their fashion videos!

First is one to celebrate the opening of Westfield Stratford, in a Clarissa/Sabrina rate of amazing outfit-ness:

I tried to pick a favourite - in fact, 30s might be  my favourite era. Isn't the noughties completely boring?

Secondly... the Lanvin AW11 campaign video:

It’s shot by Steven Meisel, features Karen Elson, Raquel Zimmerman and even Alber Elbaz himself, dancing to some dodgy disco mash up. I cannot stop laughing every time I see it. IT’S THE MOST AWKWARD THING I HAVE EVER SEEN. No one can dance for toffee, and Karen seems to be looking fearfully off camera all the time like she’s in an aerobics class three grades above what she’s used to (turns out they’re actually playing Dance Nation, which explains it haha). It is amazing.

If I didn’t know any better, I’d say they all got the idea for dancing from me

(not seriously, of course.)

I love the videos, I don’t know what my favorite era would be, I loved the 80′s but I’d have to say most dancing styles before the 80′s were better. Disco is absurd but it is funny. Swing dancing in the 1950′s, ugh, I would love to be swing danced with. The 1910′s and so forth are a bit too reserved for my taste. Oh gosh, I could go on forever – or I have already really 0_0.

I love dancing, I need to go out dancing soon.

I hope you’re feeling better sweetie.

Aww swing dancing is fun! I actually went to a couple of lessons but I was rubbish, and you kept having to change partners (unless you had a boyfriend), plus it was super basic steps to begin with. It was funny though. I once got twirled around so much I fell over :D You should see if there are any classes! x

Aww, it sounds like you had fun though. I get really shy when I have to dance in front of people, when I go to dance clubs, I have to have a little liquid courage. I love your idea about taking swing dance lessons, I never thought of that, I couldn’t get my boyfriend to go but I might still have to look into it. Thanks so much for replying.

You definitely should, especially if you’re in a big town you’re bound to have some classes. I went with my girl friends, it was always a giggle and most people are in the same boat, nervous, so you won’t need liquid courage beforehand :)

Aww you don’t have to thank me for replying! Now I’ve got disqus I try to reply as much as poss xxx

You’re so right – it is the most crazily awkward thing in the world ever. The only person who seems to be having fun is Alber. And I suspect it’s because he knows just how terrible the others look.

Hahaha, I think the boys are definitely worst. Oh man.

  • Frenchforcupcake

Glad to see you back! Oh, and in the Lanvin video they are dancing to the dance central game :)

Ohhh, that makes a lot of sense! Hahaha.

It’s awesome to see fashion portrayed as fun and celebratory. Because that’s what it should be for all of us. Thanks for the share!

I don’t know if I’ve left a comment here before–I think maybe one commenting on a cute outfit. But I just had a few reactions to your last post and this one that I thought I’d share:

I love the idea of more personal stuff! I love seeing your outfits, and I always love when you write about your thoughts. I’m less into the fashion, but that’s just me and my lack of money speaking–you should take the blog in whichever direction you want to take it in.

You might be a naturally more negative person, but I also think that our environments have a big influence on our attitudes about things. I’m fat now, but I’ve been “normal” a few times before, and always had more positive attitudes about life during those times….and I don’t think it was just the physical fact of body size. It’s HARD being fat in our culture, and I think that weighs (ha!) on us. I can be positive and happy within a little bubble, but if I spend too much time outside of that bubble the culture really gets to me. And it seems like you had been spending a lot of time out there, maybe. Not that I’m recommending staying “in” and safe–I think it’s awesome and commendable to be out there–but maybe sometimes you need a little recovery time. I guess I’m suggesting that it’s less about you and more about external stresses you shouldn’t have to deal with. Just a thought. Also, though, you don’t need to apologize about writing about negative things–it actually makes you more relate-able when you give us the whole picture. Not that you always have to share, I’m just saying that a lot of us readers can relate, and it can be healing for all of us to share these experiences.
