F*ck Flattering, indeed.

Right. A lot of people I know IRL and my family read my blog. I’m going to whack a disclaimer on this video: Mum, Gloria, Brian – you’re going to absolutely hate and be offended by this, haha. Probably best if you don’t click play.

Everyone else… well. I cried little tears of joy watching Gisela Ramirez‘s fashion show in full this morning. It is everything I wish all fashion was about: fun, not giving a shit, camaraderie. Big Bum Jumble’s fashion show last year had a similar vibe, but because this is an independent designer with her own collection it feels so special.

All of the clothes (apart from Kelli Jean Drinkwater’s incredible skirt) are available from the website in sizes 14 – 28 (AUS sizing). There’s 50% off at the moment, too! If I wasn’t dirt poor I’d have one of everything, in every colour.

Superb! I personally want the swimsuits, and a F*CK FLATTERING crop top, of course! HOWEVER, it sort of irks me that all the models are smiling. Yeah, maybe it’s because of the whole fun and camaraderie thing you say it’s missing in the fashion world, but it can’t stop reminding me of the stereotype of the jolly fatty, the whole ‘you’re extra-sized, so be extra-happy so that can make it up for your size’ that we see in society. At least they were truly happy smiles, and not awkward smiles like the ones you see on models from plus sized clothing websites. What about fat models who make bitchy faces like every other model? Models whose faces say ‘I know my worth in diamonds, haters gonna hate, I am badass and have standards in life’, and not necessarily ‘oh, please forgive me and let’s be friends, tee hee!’.

Haha like I said on twitter, I do agree! I reckon these girls are smiling because they’re genuinely happy – but I know what you mean about the “please like me I’m so nice and non-threatening” smiles most plus models have to put on…

I absolutely thought the same thing. Wouldn’t it be so much cooler if they had the same model attitude that skinny models have? Anyway. I liked the idea and love the crop top and the skirts but I’m not convinced about the colourful see through curtains, they just looked cheap in my honest opinion. Not my type of clothing. Sorry! ^^

To be honest I really don’t like her collection but I am happy that she had the guts to design it and that it’ll be available for plus size women who want to wear something daring. Hopefully it’ll inspire more designers to make fashion forward clothes in larger sizes.

I love the motto of this show because there was a sense of empowerment which I don’t think is felt very often in the fashion industry when it comes to us size 14+ gals who are expected to be and wear certain things. Hopefully this attitude will continue to thrive for everyone.

Exactly, empowerment is the right word. There’s nothing empowering about the clothes in my comparison post, for example!

It’s so expensive though. Especially for the quality and fabric. Really disappointed.

      Really? I have to disagree.

I admire her in your face approach but those prices for what it’s been sold; highway robbery. Sorry!

This made me tear up a bit too. Because it is so rare to see fat ladies prancing on a catwalk and not giving a f*ck what anyone thinks. They definitely are happy smiles, and you can’t help but break into a huge smile watching them too. The clothes are not my thing, but it is so good to have more variety and some plus designers who are not afraid to be different and do something interesting.
