Swan by Clements Ribiero and Evans’ AW12 collection

Swan AW12

The second instalment of Swan, Evans’ designer collaboration with Clements Ribiero, dropped online today. Some lovely bloggers attended a press event last week so I had some idea of what the collection looked like, but I absolutely adore the lookbook with Robyn Lawley and had to put some of that gorgeousness on my blog!

It’s just all so gorgeous, isn’t it? I think I might prefer this collection to their debut. I just love the sultry glamour and sophistication of it all, like a modern film noir heroine. It also really tickles me that Bethany and Deena paired the mimosa print trousers and top as a jumpsuit to the horror of Evans‘ facebook fans, and here it is represented just as beautifully! See? Trust your fatshion bloggers. They know what’s what. (haha)

aI’m not sure when the clothes arrive in store, but I’m definitely planning to head down after work and do another dressing room post. Let me know if you’re going too, we could have a dressing room party!

If you’re ordering online, make sure to use the code LUCKY20 for 20% off the range. What are you gonna buy?

I think my favourite thats been released (so far) is the blue dress I REALLY want that black belt with it and I dont see it yet…been excited for this though :)

  • Diane

OH CRAP. I should have read this FIRST to get the discount code as I just bought something. Le sigh.

    • Diane

Oh and in answer to your question, I bought the art nouveau print dress.

  • superbadgirl

Where can I get those belts? I must have the belts!

  • Cass

I just ordered the Placement Print Salome Dress – not because it’s a nice cut (I would NEVER normally buy what is basically a smock) but because of the Aubrey Beardsley print. I adore Beardsley so I had to have it no matter what. I wish it was on a nicer dress, but I feel sure that I can customise it into something curvy! I found both this, and the last collection exciting, but so much of the look is down to clever styling & good photography – look how figure hugging the Pansy Print Betty Dress is in the image above, and then look at it in the catalogue shots on Evans. It’s giving a pin-up feel that I don’t think the real items can deliver. If I’m any judge it will be the same as the last collection and to give the dresses any shape you’ll need a bigger size than you normally wear and a massive belt to create a waist. The lovely belts in the photos aren’t part of the collection are they? Can I add that I REALLY HOPE I’M WRONG because I love the way the collection looks in the promo shots! I just don’t hold out much hope, as in one of the blogger shots I saw the Floral Border Kimono Dress (which is knee length on the site) was almost ankle length on the woman trying it on. I thought all the dresses in the last collection were super long, even though I’m 5ft 8! My fingers are crossed! I realise that this sounds like a rant, and for that I apologise. I did get some of the 1st collection in the sale, (matchstick trousers and swallow coat, both of which I love) but not a single dress, even though those were the items I was really excited about.

I love this whole comment, but mostly please let us know how you adjust the Aubrey Beardsley print dress! I know what you mean – I’d have loved it on a shift. Ah well!

So, I’m here to update you Lauren! This may be an essay – My poor fella had to listen to this tirade last night when I showed him the dress I’d been pining for all last month!

Very sad to report that I had to return the Salome dress. I could have worked with it had it been a different material. Sadly, although it’s described as ‘jersey’, it’s actually that horrid polyester fabric that clings to every lump and bump, and shows up every bit of cellulite you have! I don’t mind this fabric when it’s patterned, but the big plain patch of beige fabric in the centre caught on my lumpy belly and completely ruined the look. I even took it home and tried it with my hardcore shaping pants, and still it clung to my jelly belly. For £65…. total balls! If it goes down to £20 in the sale I might buy a big one and add a gathered panel under the bust. I WANT THAT PRINT DAMN IT!

I did a review on the Evans website yesterday afternoon, but it doesn’t seem to have appeared (I wonder why?!). This is basically what I said – ‘All the dresses in this collection that should be fitted are made of non-stretch fabric. But this smock dress is made of stretch fabric…. why?!’ The one item that doesn’t need stretch is a friggin’ floaty smock!

There must be a reason why nearly all the last collection was reduced by such a HUGE amount, and yet they have used the same designs again. Too long, too square, crap fabric. When the last Beth ditto collection came out, lots of the stuff I wanted sold out before I could get my hands on it, and only a few things ended up in the sale (notably the ruched maxi dress, which was rubbish fabric!). Seriously Evans, plus size women need clothes designed by people who are familiar with all the different plus size body shapes. That is why Designers like Anna Scholz produce such amazing clothes. Anna rarely makes anything without stretch, because she is savy enough to realise that it allows two differently shaped women who wear the same size look good in the same frock!

Of course I’m not saying that all fat girl clothes should be stretchy – I love good tailoring as much as the next person – but good tailoring costs money, so if it doesn’t have stretch it has to be well made. I have many vintage and ‘pin-up’ style dresses thanks to my Queen of Holloway addiction, and every single one has a bit of stretch too it. It works, whatever your shape. That is what I wanted from this collection, and the last. I don’t want frumpy. I want fierce!

I sound grumpy, but it’s because I really object to these kind of collections that are supposed to be offering me something special, only to try them on and realise that they’re not made for me at all. They are made for a standard sized woman without a belly / big hips / big bum, and then just sized up. It doesn’t work like that. I feel like Evans should know better.

I love reading all the fatshion blogs – it’s inspiring and fun, and I love the positive and happy way that everybody receives new collections and brands. I do think though, that if something is rubbish then you should say it’s rubbish. If it’s badly made or doesn’t sit right than you shouldn’t pretend it does.

After all that moaning I’m going to have some maltesers and choose a dress to wear to work tomorrow. I’ve got nearly 100 to choose from, and after my Evans disappointment I’m tempted to get massively over dressed….. Cowgirls or palm trees?!

The “jumpsuit” amused me too. Not in store yet (and my local store don’t know when they are getting it) – however that discount code makes ordering online much more appealing! Ta!

  • Lillian Low

What stunning images! I absolutely love the black lacey dress. Can’t afford it even with 20% off mind :(

Another gorgeous collection and Robyn looks amazing in the photos. The grace lace and wisteria 21 dresses are my favourites. I also want that belt as well…
